The Colorado Springs Youth Symphony is the most advanced full orchestra and is the flagship of the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony Association.
Students in this group participate in a three-day camp during the summer and a 2-4 day tour to other parts of Colorado and surrounding states in odd numbered years. In even numbered years, they participate in an international tour. In June 2014, they traveled to Japan on a 16 day tour. In 2012, they traveled to Bulgaria and Istanbul, Turkey, which included participation in the Varna International Music Academy. In 2008, the Youth Symphony had the privilege of touring China and performing in the magnificent Shanghai Oriental Art Center. In 2018, 2010, and 2006, the Youth Symphony traveled to Australia for 18 days, performing at several sites, including the Sydney Opera House. The 2004 tour destination was Spain. Previous international tours have included Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and Eastern Europe.
The Colorado Springs Youth Symphony is conducted by Gary Nicholson.
