Melissa Shank has been teaching band in Colorado Springs since 2009. After teaching high school for two years, she found her niche teaching band at the middle school level. Her current teaching position is as band director at Jenkins Middle School in Colorado Springs SD 11, where she teaches three grade levels of concert band and a jazz band. The jazz band has earned superior ratings every year since she began at Jenkins. As a clarinet player, Ms. Shank has also been the woodwind coach for Bravo Winds since 2015. She thoroughly enjoys teaching beginning level students the proper fundamentals to help them create the foundation for a lifetime of playing music.

Ms. Shank attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for her Bachelor's in Music Education. She has also earned a Master's degree in Music Education with an emphasis in conducting at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. Ms. Shank holds professional memberships in the Colorado Music Educators Association, Colorado Bandmaster's Association and Phi Beta Mu.
