Joe Boylan
Brass Coach

Joe has been coaching young musicians with the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony Association since 2000, working primarily with Vivace Strings, conducted by his wife, Jennifer. He brings technical expertise and a private teaching approach to help the ensemble continue to grow and excel.
A graduate of The Juilliard School, Joe built his career as a professional tuba player, performing with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia in Spain, the Dallas Symphony, Houston Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, Shreveport Symphony, and the Colorado Springs Philharmonic. Before moving to Colorado Springs, he spent seven years teaching private lessons in the Richardson Independent School District in North Dallas—an in-the-trenches experience that proved invaluable for working with young musicians.
What drives Joe's teaching is finding students with natural curiosity—those who genuinely want to excel. His approach is practical: as students advance, he equips them with the tools and knowledge to recognize and address challenges independently.
Joe hopes students learn how to do real work and solve problems with the skills they've developed. Beyond the symphony, he owns Springs Homes, a real estate company in Colorado Springs, and performs with Colorado Brass, an award-winning British-style brass band.
