Daryl Counsell

Teacher at The Church at Briargate (TCA)

Daryl Counsell is the Wolfgang orchestra conductor and has been in this position for many years. He is also one of the Little Mozart teachers for the youth symphony. He finds it exciting to watch the progress that students make from the time they are taught how to open the case and take the instrument out until the time they start putting different notes and rhythms together to create ensemble playing.

Mr. Counsell grew up in NW Montana. He attended the University of Montana in Missoula where he earned his bachelor's degree in music education. His first teaching position was in Moscow Idaho from 1983 until 1987. In the fall of 1987, he moved to eastern Colorado where he had accepted a middle school music position where he taught orchestra choir and computer science. In 1994, Mr. Counsell took a high school orchestra and choir position in Lakeside Arizona. He was in this position for one year. He then returned to Colorado and accepted an orchestra position in District 11. He worked full time teaching orchestra in District 11 until his retirement in 2018. While in District 11, he had the opportunity to teach elementary, middle and high school level orchestra classes.

Daryl Counsell completed his master's degree in Music education from the University of Northern Colorado in August of 1990. He has also served as a board member for Colorado American String teachers association. This organization strives to provide learning opportunities for teachers and students.
