Mozart String Project

The Mozart String Project offers after-school beginning string instruction to elementary school students. The project started in 1994 in response to an increasing number of requests for orchestral training. This training is now available to children in 2nd to 5th grades. Sites for this school year include: TCA-Central, 1655 Springcrest Rd., and TCA-North, 975 Stout Road, as well as a satellite program in Falcon. Both beginning and intermediate classes are offered.

Instructors for the Mozart String Project have been carefully selected for their love of teaching, their experience, and their ability to motivate students. Each instructor is responsible for recruiting students, scheduling rehearsals and concerts, keeping attendance records, maintaining communication with the school staff, parents, and other Mozart instructors, and for providing a nurturing environment which enhances musical development. Students enrolled in the project attend two one-hour rehearsals each week and perform for their host site in cooperation with the host music teacher. Twice each year, all Mozart students come together to perform en masse at concerts.

The Mozart String Project is the foundational orchestral experience for the young musicians who participate, and will have a profound impact on the visibility and acceptance of string education in the community. The Mozart String Project directly benefits the entire Youth Symphony Association by providing early string education to the very students who will most likely participate in the five auditioned orchestras in the future.
