Pikes Peak Wind Symphony

The Pikes Peak Wind Symphony was formed in 2000 for advanced wind instrument musicians. Musicians begin the season at a three-day camp in the Colorado mountains where they meet their fellow band members and have an intensive musical experience with their conductor and coaches. Musicians hone their musical and leadership skills with weekly rehearsals, which include large-group rehearsals and sectional rehearsals with professional musicians. Those skills are then highlighted at three or four community concerts, two of which are at the Pikes Peak Center, giving them the opportunity to play in a professional-level venue.

The Pikes Peak Wind group tours regionally, nationally or internationally. They have been invited to perform in March at both Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York City. This Carnegie Hall performance is an encore of their performance in 2004. In June 2007 the group traveled to Japan, participating in an international children's music festival, and in 2004 the group traveled to Costa Rica for six days. The international trips included homestays with Japanese and Costa Rican families and community performances. Placement in Pikes Peak Wind is by audition and is based on ability, not age.
