Richard Kusk retired from public school teaching in 2000, where he was the Instrumental Music Director at Coronado High School in Colorado Springs. He taught for 32 years at Holmes Jr. High School, Doherty and Coronado High School. Dick taught both band and orchestra for 27 of those years. Before coming to Colorado he taught two years in Illinois. He is a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University and received his Master of Music Education degree from the University of Illinois.
Dick was on the board of the Colorado Music Educator’s Association from 1981-1987 and also served as Chair-elect and Chair of the Instrumental Music Council for CMEA from 1999 through the 2003 convention and was inducted into the CMEA Hall of Fame in 2004. He is now serving as the State Concert Band Chairman for the Colorado Bandmaster’s Association and was inducted into the Colorado Bandmaster’s Hall of Fame in 2000.
He has been married to his wife, Mary Lu, since 1965. They have two children and two grandchildren.
Richard Kusk is the conductor of the Ovation Youth Orchestra.
